Mindy Barlow, et al. v. Superior Court of San Diego

Standing up for the equal right to hold a Bible study in the Court facilities like any other group gathering

Mindy Barlow

For six years, Mindy Barlow and eleven other employees would get together over their lunch hour in an empty room of the courthouse. Every week, this Bible study group spent an hour fellowshipping and discussing their commonly held faith. In 2006, the members of the Bible study were told they could no longer use that room, so they asked permission to use a different courtroom. The Court administrator denied the request stating the court policy did not allow Bible studies in courthouse facilities because of a concern regarding the “separation of church and state.” However, other groups were allowed to use the facilities for a variety of secular reasons. By rejecting the court employees’ right to hold a Bible study, we believe the San Diego Superior Court has directly violated the group members’ First Amendment rights of free speech and free exercise of religion.

Mindy and her Bible study group have a constitutional right to use court facilities in the same manner as other groups, regardless of the fact that they meet to study the Bible.

Advocates for Faith and Freedom has stepped up to defend Mindy and her Bible study’s right to gather together with the same freedom that other groups have!

Take a moment to think about how you would react if you and your co-workers were stripped of the right to hold a Bible study on your own time, even though other non-religious groups were able to gather? On behalf of Mindy and other like minded individuals, please financially support our efforts and make a tax-deductible gift today to assist with Mindy’s ongoing legal defense.

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."   John 15:7
