ELECTION INTEGRITY

Our Constitutional Republic is founded on the sacred right of every eligible citizen to cast an equal vote to determine who will represent him or her in government. No right is more sacred than the right to vote, as it involves “matters close to the core of our constitutional system.” Carrington v. Rash, 380 U.S. 89, 96 (1965).

States have continued to pass laws that have undermined election integrity by legalizing unrestrained and unrestricted ballot harvesting, eliminating chain of custody, solidifying universal vote-by-mail (VBM), and gutting signature verification and ballot remaking requirements. Counties are given discretion to implement their own policies and procedures regarding signature verification and determining the intent of a voter. What used to be a two-day election season has now turned into a months-long process.

Our elections are arguably the least secure among developed countries. An overwhelming majority of developed European countries do not allow VBM because it is a less secure form of voting. The United States should be leading the charge in ensuring its elections are secure and uniform, so no voter is disenfranchised.
